Story of the Band

THE WORLDS COLLIDED

in the Year of the Dragon

The DRAGON hit hard in the years 2009 to 2012 with the DRAGON musings coming forth orally as well as in written form.  The source stream of consciousness continued on its course throughout those years as well.  2012 was an extremely productive and powerful year.  No wonder the Aztecs highlighted it on their calendar as the end of the World as they knew it.  But, we are still here nearly a decade later ... though many still predict that the world will collapse.  So, it will be for the OLD WORLD.  But, this is a NEW WORLD in a NEW AGE.  It is high time that we got on with manifesting the world as we would make it ... as the UTOPIA of our dreams.

It seems that everything came to a crescendo in the past few weeks.  Enough so, that a positive ending has been secured.  It is simply a matter of allowing it to play itself out over time.  There is a song "The Leader of the Band" that comes to mind.  Let's see if I can recall some of the key lyrics.  Then again, that is what the WWW is for.  Why remember what you can easily have the information infrastructure recall for you?  This particular song has always touched a chord within my soul.  It is as if it is speaking to me personally.  I have no knowledge as to whether others experience the lyrics in a similar way or not.  Then again, that is true of the vast majority of the little that I know about others ... at least to this point in my life.

Leader of the Band

Dan Fogelberg

An only child alone and wild
A cabinet maker's son
His hands were meant
For different work

And his heart was known to none
He left his home and went his lone
And solitary way
And he gave to me a gift I know

I never can repay

A quiet man of music
Denied a simpler fate
He tried to be a soldier once

But his music wouldn't wait
He earned his love through discipline
A thundering, velvet hand
His gentle means of sculpting souls

Took me years to understand
The leader of the band is tired
And his eyes are growing old
But his blood runs through my instrument

And his song is in my soul
My life has been a poor attempt
To imitate the man
I'm just a living legacy

To the leader of the band

My brothers' lives were different
For they heard another call
One went to Chicago

And the other to St. Paul
And I'm in Colorado
When I'm not in some hotel
Living out this life I've chose

And come to know so well

I thank you for the music
And your stories of the road
I thank you for the freedom

When it came my time to go
I thank you for the kindness
And the times when you got tough
And, papa, I don't think I said

'I love you' near enough
The leader of the band is tired
And his eyes are growing old
But his blood runs through my instrument
And his song is in my soul
My life has been a poor attempt
To imitate the man
I'm just a living legacy
To the leader of the band
I am a living legacy to the leader of the band
